Parliament suspends approval of Bono region minister-designate

Parliament has put on hold the approval of Minister-designate for the newly created Bono region Mrs. Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson over her academic credentials with 18 others sailing through.

Mrs. Kumi-Richardson until she appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament had her name preceded with a doctorate title.

It was conspicuously missing on her CV during her vetting, raising concerns from the members of the committee and a barrage of questions from Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and member of the committee.

Announcing the list of the nominees recommended by the Appointments Committee to be approved, the chairman of the committee said “…the consideration of one nominee is still ongoing.”

Below is the list of the approved ministerial and deputy ministerial nominees

Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah – Western Region; Solomon Namliit Boar – North East Region; Kofi Amoakehene – Bono East; Kinglsey Aboagye Gyedu – Western North Region; Kwasi Owusu Yeboa – Oti Region; Dr Hafiz Bin Salih – Upper West Region; and Salifu Adam Braimah – Savana Region.

Thomas Barrack: Top Trump aide accused of working as foreign agent

  Billionaire and long-time Donald Trump ally Thomas J Barrack have been arrested in Los Angeles for allegedly acting as an agent of a foreign government. The 74-year-old investment firm founder served as a key adviser to the former US president's 2016 campaign and was considered a top fundraiser. Mr. Barrack is accused of illegally lobbying on behalf of the United Arab Emirates during and after the campaign. A spokesman for Mr. Barrack said he planned to plead not guilty. Record rainfall leaves over 120 dead in western Europe, devastating parts of Germany

  Catastrophic  flooding in  western Europe has killed more than 120 people, with hundreds more missing, authorities said Friday, as large-scale rescue efforts continue amidst rising water, landslides, and power outages. Shocking images of the devastation in Germany and Belgium showed entire villages underwater, with cars wedged in between collapsed buildings and debris. The Netherlands and Luxembourg have also been affected by extreme rainfall. In Germany, at least 105 people have been killed across two western states. In the hard-hit district of Ahrweiler, in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, authorities told CNN that 1,300 people remained unaccounted for.
