The Oforikrom District Registration Officer(DRO) of the National Identification Authority, Mr Kwame Owusu Bampoe has said the Ghana Card is free for Ghanaians in the first instance.
However, if you want to register by appointment as an institution or family, you will be required to pay a fee to be determined by the Authority.
Also, renewals and replacements of lost or stolen cards will also attract a fee.
The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that, persons requiring a replacement of their national identification card, will be charged at a fee.
According to the Authority persons who misplace or damage their cards will be required to report to any nearby office of the NIA, pay the stipulated fee, demand for a receipt and have the card replaced.
Mr. Owusu Bampoe said a total of 90,000 Ghanaians have been registered by the Authority within the Oforikrom municipality.
Speaking at a gathering at Oforikrom to educate the public on the significance of the National Identification Card as monitored by Odi News Network, Mr Owusu Bampoe mentioned the mandatory requirements for the registration, which are a birth certificate or valid Ghana passport or certificate of citizenship and Ghana Post Digital Address.
He said those who did not have the mandatory documents, needed a relative issued with the Ghana Card, or two community members issued with the Ghana Card or serving or retired public servants, amongst others to vouch for them to be registered.
He revealed that permanent offices of the authority would be established after the mass registration is over.
He added that, with the opening of district and regional offices, it is their desire that after the mass registration, we would open offices in the various districts and regions.
With this continuous registration, it is the regional, district and municipal offices that are going to handle the next phase of the registration”, he said.
Children from 0 to14 years will also be registered.
He urged the citizenry to trust in the exercise and take advantage to register.
The exercise is expected to end on 16th January, 2020 in the Ashanti Region.
