Media Assault: Journalists Petition GJA over gross misconduct and abuse of office by Ashanti NSS Boss

Journalists in Ashanti Region, led by Mr. Kwaku Adu Gyamfi have petitioned the Ghana Journalist Association over a  misconduct of the Ashanti Regional Director of National Service Scheme, Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah aka Omens following a deliberate intimidation and verbal assault on one Gideon Peprah [Nana Peprah] a journalist service personnel who works with GNA.

Some irritated service personnel had  expressed their grievances to  the victim to make a publication on a four to five month delayed payment of allowances and purported text messages inviting them for killer interest rate loans by NSS.

The NSS Boss resisted all attempts to give his account to the GNA reporter so he undertook the publication.

The Ashanti Regional NSS Boss upon seeing the publication called the said personnel in conjunction with the reporter to his office, assaulted them verbally, intimidated them and also imposed unimaginable sanctions on the reporter [Gideon Peprah]

Subsequently, Mr. Opoku Mensah has currently sacked and transferred the reporter from the region to a village in the Upper East region.

He has ordered him to refund the one (1) month allowance he had received out of the four months to the Secretariat or get him arrested with follow up cautions and reminders.

He has threatened to block the victim's access to receive any monthly allowance with other intentions to withhold his NSS certificate.
Again, since he deserved not to be on the scheme with reasons best known to him (Omens) he has gone ahead to deny him access to his dashboard for monthly evaluation form.

For this reason, journalist in Ashanti Region are overly concerned about the unscrupulous actions the NSS Boss [Omens].
They have condemned the act and described his actions as an attack on media freedom.

As a result, the Ghana Journalist Association has been petitioned to step into the matter.
