NUGS MEETS MINISTER OF FINANCE ON ISSUES OF STUDENT LOAN TRUST FUND

The National Union of Ghana Students has paid a working visit to the Ministry of Finance to discuss comprehensively, the financial condition of students in the country especially in accessing the Students' Loan and how best the Union together with all stakeholders of the Loan Trust Fund can better resolve the current situation.

The meeting was necessitated due to a number of challenges beneficiaries of the Students' Loan have been through for some time now and to discuss the progress of the Loan Trust Fund in the country.

Some beneficiaries have been denied access to examination rooms because they have arrears with their respective institutions. Others have outstanding accommodation arrears and other personal expenses to settle.


The Union having had several meetings with the Students Loan Trust Fund and student leaders across Ghana, is determined to use all available opportunities to plan on a more reformed loan scheme to ensure that students do not go through the challenges of accessing their loan funds again. 

NUGS is pleased to also inform all beneficiaries that the funds have been released and that disbursements will continue to speedily curb all inconveniences they have had to endure these past weeks.
NUGS is committed to solving issues faced by students in Ghana and we will continue to update students on our activities.

Ghana added to South Africa’s list of visa-free countries

File Photo Ghanaians no longer need a visa to travel to South Africa. This is because the South African Government has added Ghana to the list of its visa-free countries. This was captured in a post on South Africa’s Home Affairs Twitter handle. Other countries that were added to the list of visa-free countries include Qatar, United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Cuba and Sao Tome and Principe. A separate statement from the Home Affairs Minister, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi said: “Out of the 193 countries who are member states of the United Nations, the Department has granted visa-free status to 75 countries.” He said, out of the number “16 are in our [African] continent and are SADC members and 59 are from all over the world.” He went on further to announce seven countries that have been added to the visa-free list which included Ghana.
