Smoke ‘wee’ as much as you want – Muramura Chief to youth

The town is also known for growing of ‘wee’ on a large scale
The Chief of Muramura in the Kwahu South District, Nana Gyaakye Amo II, says residents of his town especially the youth are free to smoke marijuana (wee) as much as they want.

According to the 83-year-old chief, he’s powerless to deal with the menace and once the youth will not come to smoke the banned substance in his house he cares less and is minding his own business.

Nana Gyaakye Amo II, made the shocking comments in an interview with Kasapa News on the back of the unfortunate incident in his town where angry residents on Sunday lynched and set fire into the body of a 29-year-old known ‘wee’ smoker Kofi Sammy for killing a 28-year-old pregnant Woman Alimatu Karim and cooking parts of her mutilated body for food.

The town is known for growing of ‘wee’ on a large scale with most of the youth puffing the banned substance at will.

When Kasapa News presenter Bonohene Baffuor Awuah asked Nana Gyaakye Amo II, what he as a chief is doing about the ‘wee’ cultivation and smoking culture of his people he responded that he’s helpless.

“The ‘wee’ smoking situation in Muramura is not different from other parts of the country; smoking of ‘wee’ is widespread in Ghana including Muramura. No one seems bothered about the ‘wee’ smoking issue in Ghana, and so what can I do? I’m powerless as a chief if someone is caught smoking ‘wee’ and you send him to the Police station what will they even do to the person?"

..."God has been good to me, I am 83 years myself and my children we don’t smoke ‘wee’ or drink alcohol, so if someone is doing his own thing in his corner why should I be bothered? ‘Wee’ is common all over Ghana including my town. I risk being attacked if I speak against the smoking of ‘wee’, once the wee is not being smoked in my house, I care less."

"Please allow me to mind my own business. They should go on smoking the ‘wee’, both the government and police are not doing anything about the situation, what can I the Chief do,” Nana Gyaakye Amo II asked?

It’s the most strident remark he has made about the 7th December 2016 polls in recent times, suggesting that he is still smarting from the anguish of losing power in an election he believed he was going to win hands down come what may. The elections he lost registered him in the annals of local politics as the first sitting President to lose polls after just a term in office – the cause of his persistent sulking. He presented his impression about the 2016 polls last week at the Oxford University Said Business School Distinguished Speaker Seminar organized in collaboration with the African Studies Centre and the Oxford Africa Business Alliance. The presentation was shortly after making the headlines for describing as ‘useless’ the invitation by the Criminal Inve...
